A keratocystic odontogenic tumor (KCOT) is a rare and benign tumor (cystic neoplasm) that typically affects the mandible (lower jawbone), but can also affect the maxilla (upper jaw jawbone).
A common symptom that results in complaints is swelling, but KCOTS can be present without symptoms. When asymptomatic, they are typically found when dental x-rays are taken as part of routine examinations.
Wikipedia presents basic information about KCOTs: en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Keratocystic_odontogenic_tumour
The purposes of this forum are for people who have KCOTs to post their experiences and to ask questions. Treatment requires surgery and can be relatively straight forward or complicated, sometimes with major reconstruction of the jaw required.
Answers to questions should not be taken as medical advice. This is a not a professional forum. Instead, shared experiences may help reduce anxiety or help patients frame and ask questions when they meet with their oral surgeons.
